Things Fall Apart

By Kristina Strom

I made this piece while reading Things Fall Apart, by Chinua Achebe. Though this acclaimed novel is set in Africa, it has become a modern day Classic because of its profound and poignant potrayal of how the shift of societal paradigms affect the very essence of our lives. This hanging is 16" by 31". It contains over two hundred pieces of fabric, all of which are hard angled though from a distance many seem curvilinear. And so it is with any shift in our lives, from the personal to the global--though the changes are often dramatic and devastating, a gentle and rhythmic harmony ultimately emarges.
